WORLDWIDE: It has never been cheaper to generate electricity from wind. We analyse the latest data and find that onshore wind looks set to remain the most cost-effective renewable energy source for the foreseeable future, despite falling solar PV prices.

Althought most wind-power developments still attract financial support - either in the form of capital subsidies or premium payments for the energy - the gap between the generation costs of wind energy and electricity from conventional thermal plants continues to narrow and, in some cases, to disappear completely.
